Late 50's WFL Barrett Deems 'Porto-Pak' Outfit in original White Marine Pearl sized 22x12", 13x9" and 16x16".

I believe this kit might have been a WFL Barrett Deems 'Porto-Pak' Outfit (catalog scan from '57), which consisted of a 22x12" kick, 12x8" tom and 13x5.5" snare. Perhaps the original owner requested a 13" instead of a 12" tom. The 16" floor would've been added at a later time as it wouldn't have come with one from the factory. The only kit model that came with a 22x12" at this time was the Barrett Deems 'Porto-Pak', but during the 60's this more commonly became known as the 'New Yorker'.

The 22" and 13" are 50's WFL, and the 16" is 60's Keystone badged Ludwig. The 22" and 13" are 3-ply mahogany/poplar/mahogany with maple re-rings. The 16" I believe is mahogany/poplar/maple with original white interior coating, and the other two drums have bare mahogany interiors.

On the whole, the chrome work and wrap is in pretty remarkable condition for it's age. Only the bass drum hoop claws show the usual ageing, and the bass drum hoops have slight chips of the paint which is to be expected.

22" bass drum rail is complete but has markings from over tightening. The bass drum hoop claws are engraved WFL. Only one isn't, and that one is just a standard 60's Ludwig claw, this is at the bottom of the drum.

The 13" has chrome over brass hoops and two round felt dampeners.

Floor tom serial number: #398967 dating it to 1966. There is a date stamp inside but it's hard to make out. I think it says 'Oct __ 1966'. The 16" has original white felt baseball bat dampener. Underneath each floor tom leg mount, there is a small plugged hole. I'm suspecting the shell might have already been drilled for an earlier style of mount. The holes have been professionally covered with WMP and are barely visible.

Toms are fitted with brand new Remo Vintage A and Coated Ambassador heads. Bass drum has Remo Fiberskyn Ambassador and Coated Powerstroke P3 batter.

Since the original photographs were taken, I have since added a WFL and Joe Cox Drums decal to the bass drum reso skin.
