1968-1972 Ludwig Standard No. S-102 14x5” Aluminium (#87114)

£450.00

1968-1972 Ludwig Standard No. S-102 14x5” Aluminium (#87114)

Serial number: 87114

Aluminium spun shell, like the Acrolite but without the centre bead.

With original strainer, internal dampener, butt end, lugs, tension rods and hoops.

In the late 60s, the Ludwig Standard range was launched to compete with budget level Japanese ranges of the time. The two metal snare drum options in the Standard range were an aluminium 14x5" with chrome plating or with 'Acrolite' finish. This is essentially the same shell as the Acrolites but without the centre bead - some would say, without the bead it gives it more of a focused sound.

This is a nice example, but there is some scuffs, aging and scratches expected for a drum of this age. There is also a slight dink in the batter side hoop.

See all photos for condition.

You can view a great video from Carter McLean playing one of these snares here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPSI6osuync

Catalog scan from 1968.

Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop in April 2026.

Fitted with used Remo Ambassador X and Ambassador Hazy with Pearl snare wires.
