1963-1970 Slingerland 'Student Aluminum Shell Model' 14x5"
Anodized aluminum shell with 8 lug design.
Original hardware including ‘Rapid’ strainer, ‘Rim Shot’ chrome over brass hoops, internal tone control, butt end, tension rods.
It looks like this drum was first catalogued in 1963/64 as having 6 lugs, even though the photograph showed 8. By the 1967/68 catalogs, they had removed the wording referring to the 6 lugs. Regardless, you really don’t see these about.
These seem to be very similiar to the original Ludwig Acrolite prototypes. Very industrial drums with large snare beds, like a lot of Slingerland metal snare offerings.
The butt end screws aren’t original and I have added a new rubber grommet to the strainer to replace the old worn and disintegrating cork one.
The chrome work is in great shape with minimal aging, scuffs or scratches.
